Hello, my name's Kevin J Foulger, also known as Newton Apple and I'm here to tell you four reasons why I'm a follower of Jesus Christ.
First of all, I was born to Christian parents who raised me in a Christian home. When I was about five years old, I went to Sunday School and learned that salvation comes only through Jesus Christ. I needed Him as my Lord and Saviour, to forgive me my sins and give me eternal life. When I went home, I asked my parents about this and my Dad gave me a small book explaining it in more detail. I prayed the prayer at the end of the book and so made my commitment to follow Jesus.
Secondly, as an adult, I felt the need to examine what I believed in. I briefly looked into other faiths but also looked deeper into The Bible. I read all the different prophecies about the Messiah, which were written by various different people over several hundred years. I also read how Jesus fulfilled them all.
Thirdly, in The Bible, some time after Jesus had died on the cross, risen from the dead and ascended into heaven, there was a man called Saul who went around persecuting the churches. One day on the road to Damascus, he had a powerful encounter with the risen Lord Jesus and his life was completely transformed. After that, he changed his name to Paul and went around starting churches. He was persecuted for this to the point where he was martyred for his faith. And after reading that, I decided that, that such a powerful and life changing transformation can only come from God.
The fourth reason why I'm a follower of Jesus Christ is because Jesus keeps giving me His love, grace, mercy and forgiveness. I'm not perfect and God knows that. Even so He still loves me. In Romans 8 v 38 - 39, the Apostle Paul wrote this (Music - Prelude by Newton Apple)"For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
In Hebrews 13 v 5, God promises "Never will I leave you, Never will I forsake you."
So why do we need to put our faith and trust in Jesus Christ for these promises to be ours?
In John 14 v 6, Jesus said "I am the Way and the Truth and the Life. No-one comes to the Father except through me."
If you would like to put your faith and trust in Jesus Christ why not pray a simple prayer like this:
Dear Lord Jesus,
Thank you for dying for me on the cross. I'm sorry for living my life without You being in charge. Come and be with me now and help me live the rest of my life for your glory. Come and be my Lord and Saviour.
If you've just prayed that prayer for the first time, if you can, I would recommend you tell a Christian friend and find a good local church you can be part of - a church that preaches the Gospel of Jesus Christ and is full of His love and grace.
Thanks for watching.
